CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Every agent and adjuster licensed in the state of North Carolina must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education for one license or any combination of licenses, every two years. An individual's Biennial Compliance Period (i.e., the 24 month period that their hours must be completed) is determined by his/her birth date. Your required 24 hours must be completed by the last day of your birth month in either an odd or even year, depending on when you were born. For example, an agent born on January 29, 1984 will need to complete 24 hours of Continuing Education by the last day of January of every even year (e.g., 2016, 2018, 2020). An agent born on May 2, 1975 will need to complete 24 hours of Continuing Education by the last day of May of every odd year (e.g., 2017, 2019, 2021).
Twenty-four (24) credit hours are required regardless of the number of licenses held. For example, if you hold both a Life license and Health license, the total number of hours needed is 24, not 48.

No matter what type of license you hold, you may take any of the Continuing Education courses offered at The Rendleman Company for credit. After you register for your required course(s), just choose the classes that meet your particular needs or interests—even the course content doesn't necessarily match the licenses you hold. If you complete more than 24 hours during a Compliance Period, the extra credits will roll over into the next Compliance Period.
To obtain proper Continuing Education credit, every agent or adjuster must provide his/her National Producer Number (NPN) when he or she registers for a class. If you do not know yours, please visit SBS License Services to obtain it. Once you have your NPN, you'll be able to view your official Continuing Education Transcript, which includes your Compliance Period and your required courses.
Agents and adjusters who fail to complete their 24 hours by the end of their Compliance Period will have their license(s) suspended. You will have 120 days, or 4 months, after your compliance date to complete your deficit hours. Once these hours appear on your official NC transcript, you can request reinstatement through the Department of Insurance by submitting this form and paying the required $75 reinstatement fee to Prometric. If your deficit hours are not completed within 120 days of license suspension and/or the $75 reinstatement fee is not paid to Prometric, your license(s) will lapse and you will be required to repeat the prelicensing process to reinstate it. Please note that it is illegal for agents and adjusters with suspended licenses to quote, sell, adjust claims or accept premiums until the deficit hours have been completed and their license(s) officially reinstated by Prometric.
You can request an extension through Prometric no sooner than 30 days before the end of your Compliance Period, and no later than its last day, by completing this form and paying a $75 extension fee.
